Ingredients
  

3 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes Peeled & thinly sliced
5 tbsp Unsalted butter Divided
1/4 cup All-purpose flour
2 1/2 cups Whole milk
1/2 cup Heavy cream
2 cups Gruyere cheese Grated
1 tsp Onion powder
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
1 1/4 tsp Salt Or to taste
1/4 tsp Black pepper

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a casserole dish with butter.

  2. Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add flour and whisk for 2 minutes to form a roux.

  3. Slowly add milk and cream while whisking until smooth and thickened.

  4. Add salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Mix well.

  5. Remove from heat and stir in half of the cheese until melted.

  6. Slice potatoes thinly (about 1/8 inch thick).

  7. Add sliced potatoes to the sauce and mix gently to coat evenly

  8. Transfer mixture into the prepared baking dish.
